Battery Autonomy

Customers often ask, “What is the range of your electric bike’s battery?” It’s a great question with a potentially straightforward answer. Most people want a precise figure, like an average of 60 km. However, an honest manufacturer would include a few “ifs” and “buts,” which is perfectly reasonable. There are many factors that can affect the battery’s range.

Take our flagship bike, the Q’be 3, for instance. This fatbike has been specifically designed for deliveries and is equipped with a sizeable 1006 Wh battery. While you might anticipate a long range with such a powerful battery, we conservatively estimate it at around 60 km. Why? There are several factors at play:

Weather Conditions

Couriers operate in all weathers. Adverse conditions can cut the battery’s range by as much as 20%. Couriers not only face the toughest weather but also must contend with reduced battery life.

Route Conditions

Whether riding on flat roads or navigating hilly areas, the landscape has a significant impact on battery range. To maintain comfort, cyclists often opt for a higher level of assistance, which naturally reduces the battery’s overall

Payload vs. Range

Electric delivery bikes present a choice that often leads to a dilemma between payload capacity and range. One (the payload) inevitably affects the other. For instance, couriers making multiple fast-food deliveries typically cover greater distances than those handling heavier grocery deliveries under similar conditions.
Choosing a transport vehicle and understanding the necessary battery range requires consideration of various factors. However, cyclists can take steps to enhance battery life and improve overall efficiency:

Tire Pressure

Keeping tires properly inflated can significantly reduce rolling resistance, leading to better battery performance.

Assistance Level

Our Q’Be offers several levels of assistance. While it may be tempting to ride with a higher assistance level, consider whether it’s truly necessary given the conditions.

Bike Maintenance

A well-maintained bike with a properly lubricated chain offers less resistance and can cover greater distances. Bring your bike in for regular maintenance at one of our service points.

Battery Storage

To ensure your battery remains fully functional, charge it overnight in a safe location, ideally at around 20 degrees Celsius. If the bike will not be used for a few weeks, it’s advisable to store the battery at 60% to 80% of its full charge.
